The best conveyor belt sushi!

Sushi Maru in Bellevue is hands down the best conveyor belt sushi! It’s located in Bellevue and I heard they were opening one in the Northgate area which is both exciting and convenient because then I don’t have to go to the Eastside or pay a toll to cross the 520 bridge for some delicious “on the boat” sushi! Their plates range from $1.50-$3.50 which is are awesome prices for the variety and quality of sushi they have! They also have other menu items other than sushi. If you like Sushiland or Blue C Sushi, you HAVE to try this place out and tell me what you think!

I can’t remember which rolls were which! One had eel over a spicy tuna roll, another had seared salmon over a Cali crunch roll, etc. I will have to ask and edit this in the future! At the end, we had cheesecake! It was good, reminded me of Costco cheesecake! If you want quick and good sushi at a good price at a great venue then Sushi Maru is your go to joint!

The dynamic duo… splits! Please take a moment to leave a comment and congratulate fellow foodie/co-blogger/friend/roomie of mine Alana Garcia (@Alanita_Bonita) for getting an internship at an advertising agency in NYC! I am so proud of her and I know she is getting closer and closer to her dream but I miss her oh so much!! She left for the Big Apple on March 1 and I need to visit ASAP! Our friend Bill said “I would move to New York just for the food.” I’m pretty sure there is something mouthwatering around every corner of the concrete jungle. I want to splurge when I go since I’ve never been! Thank goodness for technology, specifically MacBook Pros and iPhones for making communication 10x better than just a text or phone call! FaceTime FTW!

Hello Seattle food heads! We apologize for the lack of posts within the past month. We are working on a new look for our site and are planning on buying a domain. As always, please feed us back! Homemade Filipino Lunch

What did you have a for lunch? I thought I’d let emeraldbites readers have a taste and a look of lunch away from restaurants and into my home away from Seattle! I live in Roy which is a small city south of Tacoma and right next to Ft. Lewis. My cousin was getting married at the Lakewood Municipal Court yesterday afternoon and my aunt decided to have lunch at her house before the wedding. I wish I had lunch like this more often! I am definitely going to ask my mom and dad to teach me how to cook some of these Filipino dishes. I apologize that I wasn’t able to take a picture of each dish individually but I wanted to share it with you guys anyway!

Filipino desserts and dishes!

Some of the dishes are:

Menudo which has a sort of Mexican flavor to it consists of potato, raisins, red pepper, pork, liver, and chick peas.

Pansit: Famous Filipino noodle dish. The ingredients can vary but the one we had has green beans, carrots, and chicken. It tastes amazing when you add lemon juice for more flavor!

Lumpia: Famous Filipino eggroll. My aunt’s lumpia has a distinct taste to it unlike any others that I’ve tried. Her lumpia has mushroom, pork, carrots, and another ingredient that my taste buds can’t figure out. I’ll have to ask her!

Desserts:

Bilog-bilog: This dessert translates to “circle circle.” It’s bascially rice flour rolled into little balls with other little jello cubes, bananas, and coconut to accommodate it.

Bibingka: A Filipino version of a casava cake.

Luckily a big lunch means lunch is also provided for the next day too so I had pansit again! (I listed the ingredients above and I know you can see bits of scrambled eggs in this picture but that was because I ate some before I dug into the pansit)

U-District Street Fair 2010- longest running street fair in the nation!

Did you know that the U-District Street Fair is the longest running street festival in the nation? Last weekend the U-district celebrated this event for its 41st time! I’ve gone to the Street Fair the last four years that I’ve been a student at UW. This year was by far the most fun! I ate more and went with more people and this year I was lucky enough to go on another sunny day because if you haven’t noticed, not that it isn’t hard to miss, but our spring weather has been super bi-polar!

I’ll just do a recap of the food through the pics I posted:

Row 1, Pic 3: My friend Aileen bought the giant bag of kettle corn for $8! It was so good and the blend of sweet and salty was just right, the way kettle corn should be! There were four of us eating it but by the time we had our fill we were only about two inches deep from the top. I swear we ate more! It felt like we ate half!

Row 2, Pic 1,2: Roasted Corn! This is definitely a MUST when you’re at any outdoor food event! It was perfect, it definitely hit the spot!

Row 2, Pic 3,4: Earl’s was doing a $1 bbq rib promotion because they are planning to add it to their menu! My friends said that the ribs were pretty good for a place that doesn’t regularly serve ribs but it had more of a cajun taste than BBQ. I’m not much of a ribs person and I thought they were okay. Now on the other hand, Earl’s BBQ Chicken Pizza was delicious!

Row 3, Pic 1, 2: Peaks Frozen Custard reminded me of Italy! It was probably because we bought the Affogato flavor which is their frozen custard topped with a shot of espresso! MMM MMM, molto delizioso! It was a perfect balance of vanilla and coffee!

Row 3, Pic 3,4: A Ray’s Elephant ear and mango lemonade! I usually eat elephant ears at the Puyallup fair but this year I guess I’m treating myself twice to one of these! It was satisfying but this elephant ear was a little too buttery for my liking.

Overall, I love the atmosphere at the Street Fair on a sunny day! The art, jewelry, people, shows, music, food, vibe and energy reminded me of all the summer events that Seattle has to offer. I definitely enjoyed the time I had with my friends at the 41st U-District Street Fair and I’m looking forward to more events to go to so let’s go! If you’re craving good, home-made, Hawaiian food, this is the place to go! Kona Kitchen caters your every need whether it’s for breakfast, lunch, dinner or for those late night cravings! Not only is this restuarant decorated with surf boards and vintage Hawaiian posters, but the walls are filled with their huge collection of signed celebrity photos. Did I forget to mention that the owner of the restaurant played the role of the father in Disney’s Johnny Tsunami?

Ok, so they have Hollywood status, but is the food good as their reputation? Yes it is! Everything I have ordered was de-li-cious. I personally love their Belgian waffles because they’re soft and fluffy in the inside and crispy on the outside. Hits the spot every time. No matter what time of the day it is, I always manage to order their waffles.

If I had to compare Kona to Hawaiian BBQ…I would say, they both have great food!

PS (from Melissa) Alana has been telling me about this place since last year! I’ve been dying to go there but haven’t had the chance! The one time I did, it was closed! Good thing she posted the schedule. Every time we talk about this place she cannot emphasize enough how good every single bite was. My taste buds can’t wait to party! I want to go ASAP!
